WE Outside! The Darty Documentary

Producer and director of Photography: Kayla Austin

Produced by kaesi uncovered, Edited by Tamryn Sainten

At Howard University, darties aren’t just day parties—they’re a rite of passage. More than music and mimosas, these midday celebrations pulse with tradition, creativity, and community. They pop off during Welcome Week, take a quick winter hibernation, and bloom back in the spring like clockwork—just in time for sundresses, sunglasses, and good vibes only.

For students, darty season is a time to show out and show up. It’s where fashion meets freedom, and where the campus becomes a runway, a dance floor, and a family reunion all at once. But more than anything, darties are about the joy of togetherness. It’s the unspoken bond of knowing you're part of something bigger—where every beat, every laugh, every outfit is a reminder that Black joy lives here.
